'be formative' is a design studio based in Seoul, South Korea, started by designers Yejin Kim and Kiyong Lee in 2020 after their team activity at Craft Combine. The studio designs in areas like products, lighting, furniture, home accessories, and spaces, focusing on everyday life and living.

Inspired by daily life and traditions, we explore the shapes and stories of objects. Our designs are based on a strong understanding of materials, production processes, and craft skills, blending industry and craft into unique works.

The studio has worked with many brands to develop products. Along with collaborations, 'be formative' also works on independent projects to share its own design language and philosophy.

Both designers graduated together from the 'Design & Arts - Product Design' at Hongik University in 2017. Yejin Kim also completed a dual major in 'Textile Art Fashion Design', and Kiyong Lee finished the 'Korea Design Membership' program in 2015. He also obtained a Master's degree in 'ECAL Design For Luxury & Craftsmanship' in 2023. In 2024, he has been teaching as an adjunct professor in the Design Convergence Major at Hongik University.
